Nimmo and me

Meet Sanjeeda, who plays the role of Nimmo in Ekta Kapoor's `Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka'

She is not new to `lights... camera... action.' And yet, this is her debut role. Not on the big screen though, since she has already done three South Indian movies, but on television.

Featuring in the lead role in Balaji Telefilms' brand new daily on Star One, Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka, which started this past Monday, Sanjeeda is all perked up about her latest career flight.

"I have reasons to feel really happy. I am opening my account in Hindi serials with the best banner possible. The entire team is so professional. And then, my debut serial has got a Star channel to be aired on. What more could I ask for," she says, obviously in high spirits. Hailing from Ahmedabad, Sanjeeda touched down at Mumbai a little over four years ago in the hope of entering a profession no one in her family had thought of pursuing - acting. By and by, she got offers to do some modelling assignments, and not just one but three movies came her way, but all in languages that are still Greek to her - Kannada, Tamil and Telugu.

Says Sanjeeda, "I have no theatre background, but I have done a lot of Indo-fusion dance, so that helped me a lot, as South Indian movies have a lot of dances. I have anyway never been bad at remembering lines, so I mugged up my dialogues quite well," she recounts. Like most budding actors, this one also tried to break into Bollywood but admits, "I didn't get any offers that I thought were worth trying out for a debut in Hindi films." So the obvious choice was the small screen.

Describing Nimmo

Describing her role in the 10 p.m. daily, Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka, Sanjeeda says, "Nimmo is a very normal girl. A sweet, simple happy soul. You can call her a girl next-door." In many ways, Nimmo differs from her real self, she says, though drawing a parallel with herself, adds, "but she is as clumsy as I am really." As far as acting is concerned, she says she has "learnt quite a lot of finer points" through Kya Hoga...

"I am very thankful to Ekta Kapoor for giving me a chance. This is one place, I have realised, which appreciates your hard work," she feels. Though many actors complain of the long shooting hours of the Balaji banner, Sanjeeda has no problems doing a 12-hour shift per day.

"It is a daily, after all," she knocks back. Surely, the lady has to tether herself well to the boat that has the power to take her to the shores of success.
