Meera Vasudev juggles modelling, acting and choreographing
|
"My husband, Vishal, is a great help and inspiration... "
STYLE CHECK Meera Vasudev
With her slim, trim figure and stylish haircut, she looks very inch the model. So when she tells you that nine years ago she weighed 80 kg, you gape in disbelief. It is an example of what can happen once you set a goal and are determined to reach it.
Losing weight
At 15, an overweight Meera accompanied her younger sister, who received a part in a film, to the shooting sets. Those visits sparked within her the ambition to become a model and actor herself. It was then that she began to work on losing her weight. And not only did she become a model, but she also became a successful actor. Meera Vasudev was in the city to receive the Ujala-Asianet Award 2005 for the `best female new face award.' Her portrayal as Lekha, a housewife in `Thanmatra' impressed the critics and her fans.
`Thanmatra' came her way when Vivek, her liaison officer arranged a meeting with director Blessy. He narrated the story and she liked it. "I was a bit apprehensive about playing a 35-year-old. It was a challenge and I am glad I did it," she says.
It was another milestone in the Mumbai-born actor's career graph. A graduate in Psychology and English literature, Meera became a successful model through ads for Fair & Lovely, Preethi Mixer and AVT Coffee. Her entry into reel world was through a Hindi film with Milind Soman called `Rules pyar ka superhit formula.'
"Then I did a Tamil movie, `Unnai saran adienthen,' for which I got a State Award in 2003. Then came `Thanmatra,'" says Meera.
Versatile actor
Regarding her co-star, Mohanlal in the movie, she is full of praise. "He is a versatile actor. He was a great help in getting the right emotions," she says.
Meera who would like to do more Bollywood movies, says she has three offers, including `Thodi life thoda maja' with Jackie Shroff and `Breaking News.' A Tamil movie, `Jerry,' with Ramesh Choudhury will be released shortly and a Malayalam movie is in the offing with Kalabhavan Mani.
In love with the city, one of her favourite haunts is Coffee Beanz.
Apart from acting, Meera does choreography for stage and television. So, how does she balance it all? "My husband, Vishal, is a great help and inspiration and Vivek is always there too."
