SCINTILLATING COLOURS Dazzling hues in the bedroom keep the children's moods buoyant
Dream homes are made of fantastic interiors and a wonderful cohesive blend of utility and luxury. But, doing up kids' rooms is a task that is class apart. The rooms should give an impression of a magical world that kindles their imagination and sparks excitement.
Decorating a child's room can be great fun and exciting keeping it view the age factor.
This doesn't mean that you start redecorating the room every few years. The themes for the furniture could range from nursery rhymes to fairy tales to the jungle book or cartoon characters!
L. Venu and Lata have designed one such bright and colourful room for their little angel, Gita Anisha. All of five years, the little one is well aware of the world around. The couple lives in the plush Vijay Heights apartment block.
Venu is a building contractor and knows the art of catering to individual tastes. That is exactly what he did when it came to the nursery.
Glued to Pogo
Gita loves to spend most of her time in her room, playing, reading or sleeping. She likes the Cartoon channel and hence, has them strewn across the room for company. A big fan of Pogo channel, the girl is glued to it most of the time. An attempt by her mother to persuade her to move away from the channel draws a witty reply, "how will I learn to speak good English if I don't watch Pogo, Mama?"
Varieties abound the market for those shopping for kids' furniture, bedding or wardrobe. Girls are usually dressed in pink and boys in blue, and this practice generally is extended to the decor too. The wardrobes in Gita's room are a blend of pink, lavender and orange, with lifelike caricatures of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck. Neatly segregated into three different shelves, one of the shelves in the wardrobe has her pretty dresses; the other has books and the last one has a collection of educative toys.
Dream world
The curtains with printed motifs of different animals have striped zebras, tall giraffes, jumbo elephants, furry rabbits on land and a water body with dolphins and fish in it.
Gita loves to find herself surrounded by them and has learnt to spell out their names too.
A couple of baby chairs, a rocking chair of cane has stuffed toys seated on them. A baby keyboard is what Gita strums on for music and fancy building blocks for her creative mind.
The simple rosewood bed has a bedspread with nursery rhymes and bunnies with magic wands with stars on top. The printed words `Happy Baby' on the bedspread indicate Gita's state of mind.
A rag doll gives her company on the bed and Gita is surrounded by picture books that stoke her gray cells.
Gita is a very active child and it takes all of Lata's energy to keep the little girl occupied.
Besides spending time with Gita, Lata loves to churn out yummy dishes and read books. She has a dream to groom the entrepreneur in her in the days to come.
