Channel boom

Last week, Kerala's leading Malayalam daily Malayala Manorama announced its plans to launch a 24-hour news channel called Manorama News. Even though analysts feel it is almost impossible to launch successful channels in any language, Manorama News with its vast network is giving sleepless nights to competitors. The new channel is expected to shake up the Malayalam television industry, which already has a dozen satellite channels, the highest among regional ones. Five more are in the pipeline, and they are likely to be launched before the end of the year.
