Coimbatore has a Commonwealth Games medal winner from the Navy
|
Sanjeev Rajput of the Navy shooting team based in Coimbatore has spent considerable time and energy shooting at the rifle range here.
His effort over the years has earned him a rich reward in the form of an individual bronze medal in the 50m rifle prone event in the ongoing Commonwealth Games at Melbourne, in Australia.
Setting a record
Sanjeev is no mean shooter. He has been a regular at the nationals since 2001.
He had represented the country in the ninth South Asian Federation Games (SAF) at Islamabad in 2004 and won a gold in the 50m rifle three-position competition there.
The remarkable feature is, he ended up setting a new Games record.
The three-position competition, lying down, standing up and kneeling, is considered a tough event.
But, Sanjeev proved that nothing is impossible by winning a gold in the 50m rifle three-position (team) event at the Commonwealth Federation shooting championship in Melbourne.
A couple of years ago he clinched the 10m air rifle gold in the 48th national shooting championship at Indore and emerged `Champion of Champions'. Sanjeev has the rare qualities of a star shooter. He will surely win many more laurels for his country and his team - the Navy.
