Shyaam- Shyaama saga goes on

"Pyaar Ke Do Naam... Ek Raadha Ek Shyam" is the launching pad for the model, Indraneil Sengupta and also gives a chance for actress Barkha Bisht to do something different

REELING BACK IN TIME Indraneil Sengupta and Barkha Bisht in a scene from the serial, "Pyaar Ke Do Naam... Ek Raadha Ek Shyam"

Tele-serial viewers have seen quite a few stories based on reincarnation. But this one sounds somewhat different. First of course, that it is a Rajshri Production makes one think that the serial's staging will be a little understated than the usual material on the tube. And second, it does not reel back to the past so much that it becomes a sort of fairy-tale. The Star Plus serial with a mouthful of a name, Pyaar Ke Do Naam... Ek Raadha Ek Shyaam, starting this Monday, goes back as far as the 60s and so it easily connects to a sizeable section of senior soap-watchers.

Intelligently made it surely is, for if the modern-day lovers, Shyaam, a rich businessman's son, and Raadha, an aspiring doctor from a middle class family, can bond with the young viewers, their reincarnated versions, Kisna, as a sensitive, responsible man of the 60s, and Shyaama, as a typical "Gaon ki alhad ladki", may take back the older generation to the good old days.

Says Indraneil Sengupta, who plays the role of Shyaam and Kisna, "The narration of the story is done in a very interesting manner. It starts with the present and keeps going on a flashback, so you don't get caught in just one era but keep getting the full depiction of the story."

Debut role

Indraneil, a Galdrags Man Hunt finalist along with actor John Abraham, is making his acting debut with these roles. "Very few starters have got the opportunity to do a dual role in their very first assignment, so I feel I am lucky," is what he says about it. Lucky he is, as he gets to display his talent differently in both the roles. As Shyaam, he is a "flamboyant, rich brat running after girls" and as Kisna, he is "a very responsible young man from a rural community who goes to the city to study and returns to do something for the uplift of his village."

Something different

Even for Barkha Bisht, who does the dual roles of Raadha and Shyaama in the serial, it is an opportunity to do something that she had "never done before on TV."

Barkha so far has been seen in many a `K' serial such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kkavyanjali, etc., donning the customary roles with heavy dialogues in flashy outfits.

"That is right. Both the roles are really different from what I have done so far on TV," says the Dehra Dun dame. More than the role of Raadha, Barkha says getting into the skin of the character Shyaama was difficult.

"I had to really study how to look and behave like an innocent village girl, happy with small successes of life," she relates.

And now that they have canned a few episodes for the Monday to Thursday 8 p.m. daily, both say they are loving the roles!
