The newly crowned Neha Kapur gets serious about social issues
|
MOMENT OF GLORY Neha Kapur
The crown may have changed life 360 degrees for Miss India Universe Neha Kapur but she stays as warm and spirited as before.
"I know all this euphoria will end and when it does, I don't want to be left alone. I want to cherish every moment of it with my friends who have supported me all through."
Indeed. Neha is back in her hometown Delhi and has sprung into action. Recently, she showcased the outfits for designer-friend Manav Gangwani. Neha will be walking the ramp during the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week not just for Manav but for other designers too.
"I'm a model first. Anyway, had I lost the crown, I would have been doing the ramp," she says with a beaming smile. Talking about the opportunities as a Miss India, Neha says, "For once a model gets to air her opinion. A model is supposed to pose and walk the ramp but as a Miss India people would listen to me. I want to take it as an opportunity and responsibility to connect with the real India." Calling herself "half Bihari" for her mother belongs to Bihar, Neha says she has been there many times, and would like to work as a link between the common man and those in power. "I believe entertainment industry is always an option and is definitely a way to contribute to the society but I would like to do something more substantial. Beauty queens have promised too much in the past but I don't know what stopped them from delivering."
On her tryst with the fashion world, Neha says that she gradually learnt to get the gait right and the art of reflecting the mood of the collection. "Life as a model is not as easy as people believe it to be. It's a nine-to-nine job. You do get to wear good clothes and look great but there is little time left for oneself." For the past one year, Neha has been following a strict diet and fitness regimen to win the crown. "Imagine, a foodie like me surviving on a diet. Worst of all, no chocolates!"
Gearing up for the Miss Universe pageant to be held in China, she says, "The 45-day all-round training prior to the Miss India contest is directed towards preparing us for the international pageant." So, Neha is all set to go.
