Dance show

The Alliance Francaise of Madras is presenting a work in progress, "Velvet", by Keity Anjoure this evening (April 8), 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at its premises on College Road.

Work in progress is the first stage of the creation, where the artist interacts with the audience in order to improve the processes of the piece. "Velvet" will develop into a quatuor, three performers and one philosopher. For the first time, Keïty has linked her dance to philosophy: the piece will be impregnated by the vision of Eurotaoism as defined by Peter Sloterdijk, German philosopher.

Originally from India, Keity has been influenced by Kuchipudi and yoga. She finds a converging space between movements of Indian dance and contemporary Western dance, thereby developing her own meaning of energy as language. An artist in residence at the Dune, she has collaborated with two Indian musicians, Rajesh Mehta and Master Justy. The work in progress started in Tamil Nadu (The Dune and Alliance Française de Madras) and will go to New York to the Dance Space Project in June. The event is supported by Alliance Française of Pondicherry and Alliance Française of Madras, AIR (Artists In Residence) at the Dune Beach Village, Point Ephémère, Main d'Oeuvre, Gulf Air For details, call 28279803/ 28271477.
