When adventure is in one's blood, one just can't avoid scaling new heights. Sarfraz Singh, the fourth generation soldier who is currently posted in Goma, Congo with the UN Forces has added another feather to his cap.
This soldier of 5 Para who has the distinction of scaling the Nun Peak of 7140 meters in the Northern Kargil Sector last year, has recently touched the Kilimanjaro peak, that too in a bus in less than three days.
Spanning the border between Kenya and Tanzania, the snow capped Kilimanjaro mountain is 80 kilometres long and 40 kilometres wide.
Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, is also one of the highest volcanoes in the world. Major Singh climbed the peak through the Marangu route, the big tourist route, 40 kilometres away from the nearest town called Moshi.
Highest point
The Marangu route oversees Kilimanjaro Gate, Mundara Hut, Horombo Hut, Kibu Hut, Saddle, Gilman's Point and Uhuru Peak, which is the highest point in Africa.
While the Uhuru peak is 5895 meters, the summit of Kibo-Uhuru is partially covered by three large ice-files from which hang 15 glaciers.
This height takes six days to climb including one day of acclimatisation at the base. But Major Singh scaled the height in less than three days.
He got a certificate from DIR Kilimanjaro National Park, Tanzania for the achievement.
