Dozens of artists raise the temperature in the art world in the city
|
As the cream of art world prepares itself for the society cats, the bell is ringing for thousands of aspiring artists. Doubt this? Try the State Art Gallery at Madhapur and scan the dozens of canvasses, sculptures, carvings, photographs for a glimpse of the talent swirling beneath the few names that make their mark in the metrocentric art world.
The artists are from Patna, Ranchi, Udaipur, Bhilwada, Samastipur and other places usually not associated with high art. But the quality of work, ranging from its shock value to the ultra simple rural themes to complex sculptures with many layered meaning, is simply awesome.
Once the surprise of boondocks wears off, you can soak in the art, the craftsmanship, the draughtsmanship and the brushwork. Titled `Variations - '06', the group show reached out with its multi-cultural presence. On April 5, they staged Badey Bhai Sahab of Munshi Premchand, on April 10, they are staging Panchlite, the story by Fanishwarnath Renu, which shows the transformation wrought by a lamp in a village's life. Besides the plays and documentaries, they hosted seminars by eminent artists.
Among the pick of the pieces are Kautilya Vyas's As you sow, so shall you reap and Construction. Then there is Kumari Archana with her bright hued brilliance. But move beyond the canvasses and there are brilliant sculptures. Have a dekko, the exhibition ends on April 11.
