From Venice

Try out exotic salads, bakes and desserts at the ongoing Italian food festival

SIMPLE DELECTABLE Pastas and herbs

Apart from those romantic gondolas, palazzos and piazzas, what comes to mind when you think of Italy is the pasta and sun dried tomato spread.

But there is more to the cuisine one observes at the ongoing food festival Veneziano (Touch of Venice) at Pickles. Known for its over 40 pickles sourced from different parts of the world and its buffet, the coffee shop gets drenched in an Italian hue this time around.

Subtle use of fresh thyme, basil and fennel to flavour the mid-spicy spread is the USP as also a wide array of bakes. Red snappers, leg shanks and poached eggs appear equally appetising as fennel and cream preparation or the potato skin delicacy served with sour cream.

"Each main course option is a meal by itself. The idea is to give the connoisseurs something different for their taste buds. The spread is mild except for Duck in orange sauce that has a little tang," says Chef Raj, corporate executive chef Ohri's.

From a Classic Caesar salad served with chicken crouton and parmesan shavings to a Fresh fruit in white wine for dessert, the a la carte line up reads indulge.

And still if you want to stick to the familiar pasta there is Potato lasagne and Fettuccini carbonara. Generous dollops of cream makes it a rich fare but who is counting calories when there is delectable and novel spread around. Bon Apetit.
