SUPERCAR CLUB

Italian Stallion

They give us a beautiful car, and just when you think they can't do better, wham, a new horse prances into our wishlist! Officially a replacement for the 575M, the 599 GTB Fiorano (Gran Turismo Berlinetta) offers more of everything - comfort, cabin space, practicality and performance.

The 65-degree, 5999cc V12 engine - a highly reworked version of the Enzo's - provides a mellower 621 bhp at 7600 rpm. Top speed is `in excess of' 330kph, with a 0-100 kph possible in 3.7sec and 0-200 in a mind-numbing 11.Like the outgoing 575M, the 550 GTB too has a front engine - mid-mounted, behind the front axle line - along with a transaxle (gearbox and final drive combined) to achieve good weight distribution (47/53 per cent front/rear). A new F1-Trac traction control system, unlike the previous E-Diff, operates through engine and brake interventions. The suspension of 599 is one of its most advanced features. Ferrari's traditional double wishbone suspension now carries magneto-rheological (MR) dampers that are filled with magnetic fluids. By varying the strength of an external magnetic field, damping can be adjusted automatically and instantly, with reaction at 10 milliseconds!

Interested? Right... now, for the difficult bit - the 599 GTB is expected to carry a base price tag of around Rs 1.28 crore... not including customs and various duties if you want it in India... ahem!
