SANCTUARY SPOTLIGHT
Hazaribagh National Park
Situated in low hilly terrain, this national park has many wild animals. The steep hills and dense forests have a long road that you can take to visit all the corners of the park. Tribal habitation surrounds the park, and this could be a great way to see the culture of Jharkhand.
Where wildlife is concerned, the tiger population isn't high, so spotting the great cat may not be likely. But you are bound to catch the other animals at the waterholes in the evening. The weather is tropical; summers are hot, winters, cold.
Also visit: The Palamau Reserve Forest, the Canari Hill, the Rajrappa Falls and the hot springs at Suraj Kund.
Area: 184 sq. km in Jharkhand
Animals: Wild boar, sambar, nilgai, chital, sloth bear, kakar, tiger and panther.
How to get there:
Road: Hazaribagh town (19 km)
Rail: Koderma (59 km) or Hazaribagh Road railway station (67 km)
Air: Ranchi (91 km)
Best time to visit: October-March
Contact: Divisional Forest Officer, West Division, Hazaribagh.
