He Shael prevail

Singer Shael talks back and forth his walk

ON A SONG Shael is being wooed by Bollywood

Shael is a singer with a style of his own. He came into the limelight when his album Jhoom topped the music charts. This album had three love songs and five fast-paced numbers. Other albums to his credit are Teri Kuchh Yaadein and Hasna Kamal.

"I do riyaz for at least an hour everyday so that I am able to synchronise well with the sur and tala," says the singer. Shael, who is also well versed with the guitar and the piano, has an offer to sing for a film for which the music has been composed by Aadesh Srivastava. "Working with Aadesh is indeed going to be a learning experience." He is going to sing a love song and another song using the dialect of urchins. He has to constantly modulate his voice as per the theme of the song. "The song demands a rustic voice."

Shael had his initial training from his mother and guru Manjeet Singh. Singing and dancing since his childhood days, he also headed a musical band at the Bombay New College.

During his college days, he was spotted by music director Biddu and that was when his musical journey took off. Biddu encouraged Shael by giving him excellent training. His favourites include Darren Hayes and Ronan Keating.

The singer prefers live performances to playback singing. "I really enjoyed performing with Shaan for Channel V at Mumbai recently." His next album is scheduled for release during mid-May. The highlight of the album is a Punjabi folk song, which he describes as having a slight touch of English rap and techno music.
