An exquisite collection of cotton and silk sarees are on display


Cool cottons

Cottons and handlooms are the best bets for summer. And, if you want to make a distinctive style statement like actresses Shabana Azmi, Kirron Kher, Khushboo, Suhasaini and Radhika, you may like to check out the collection of Mayuri Prints from Chennai. The group is bringing their collections to Hyderabad, which will be on display at Tara's 95 Parklane from April 20 to 22, between 10.30 a.m and 8.30 p.m. Saris in silks and cottons that are embroidered or block printed are also known for their distinctive motifs and wide palette of colours. Also part of the collection are saris and salwar suits in hand block printed tussars and Kerala cottons. Prices range from Rs. 800 to Rs. 4,000

Blast from the past

Taramati Baradari will come alive on April 24 and 25 as the stage is set for the play, Legend of Taramati. The play, written by Ashok Lal, who penned plays like Maa Retire Hoti Hai, explores the love and times of Taramati. An artist who believed that art is timeless and transcends boundaries of religion, Taramati was the centre of attention of King Sultan Abdullah Qutb Shah (grandson of Mohammed Quli Qutb Shah).

For this play, Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation has roped in the best of artistes. The play is directed by Mohammad Ali Baig and has music composed by Kaarthik Illaiyaraja. The lights and sets are by Padma Shri M.S.Sathyu and choreography is by Vani Ganapathy and Bharat Sharma. Upasana Shukla dons the title role and model-turned-actor Tarun Dhanrajgir plays the part of the Sultan. Playback singer Madhushree has rendered the songs. The play is being presented by AP Tourism Development Corporation as part of the Golconda Festival.

Celeb guest

Actor Waheeda Rehman will be the chief guest for the book release of Farida Raj's Hum aur Hamari Sehat on April 22 at Taj Residency, 7 p.m.

Painting expo

A display of paintings and drawings by Omsurya is on view at Chitramayee State Gallery of Fine Arts, Kavuri Hills, till April 23.
