Romancing the stones

Pooja Sutrave gives diamonds a twist

Think diamonds and semi-precious stones and you would ponder over which leading jeweller in the city you could buy them from. Designer jewellery, especially for gold and diamonds, is limited to an ultra-niche section in Hyderabad. If you are game to try jewellery pieces that are refreshingly new and don't want to make a trip to Mumbai, Delhi or Bangalore to pick up something exclusive, have a dekko at Pooja Sutrave's creations.

Having studied gemmology, she began designing a couple of years ago. She likes to work with diamonds, precious and semi-precious stones and prefers to stay away from the clutter of costume jewellery. "That's just not me. You have a lot of other options for costume jewellery. I wanted to try and bring in more variety for those who are looking for exclusive jewellery. For instance, precious stones can be used for chandelier earrings," she says. The exhibition, which is on, features her collection of earrings and finger rings. Looking beyond emeralds and rubies, Pooja has clubbed diamonds with corals, sapphires, pink topaz and other stones to create unique pieces. If you are keen on sporting hatke pieces, then check out the finger rings carved out of teak wood and embedded with diamonds!
