THE GURU Swami Kriyananda

In today's busy world when people don't have time for anything except their work, Swami Kriyananda advocates, "All we live for is nothing." He says that the sum total of our doings, our joys and sorrows, our hopes and despairs is nothing but zero. He lays stress on the saying `Jagat mithya brahma satya' which means that Lord Krishna is the divine truth and rest everything is fictitious.

Kriyanand, a disciple of Paramhans Yogananda, has already authored some 80 books on spirituality and yoga and his works and music sell worldwide. Now he has come up with his creation, "The Essence Of Bhagavad Gita". Recently, Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit formally released the book. Hailed as a spiritual classic, the book is simple, direct and inspiring. It explains Yogananda's unique exposition on the Gita. According to L.M.Singhvi, who was present during the release, the book epitomises the age-old `guru shishya' relationship. He also remarked that like parents live on through their children, the gurus live on through their disciples. Paramhans Yogananda has lived on through the work of his favourite disciple, Swami Kriyananda.

`The Essence Of Bhagavad Gita' brings Gita to the contemporary reader, transcending traditional interpretations with fresh insights reflecting the discoveries of modern science, which prove that matter is energy. It explores human reality, as something not defined by a physical body, but as energy and consciousness. Written in a lucid style the concepts have been explained through vivid illustrations . making India's ancient wisdom relevant to a modern world.
