Cue sports finally seems to have bridged the continental divide as the United States Snooker Association is all set to host the first World Team Championship in August under the auspices of the International Billiards and Snooker Federation. The event has evoked good response with 40 nations, including India sending their entries. World champion Pankaj Advani is looking forward to the championship at San Jose.

"This is the first time we are playing an international event, a world championship at that, in the U.S. It is good for the game if it creates interest among the American public and sponsors," said Advani.

He is taking the event seriously practicing at the Karnataka State Billiards Association in Bangalore. "Besides me, Yasin Merchan, Manas Chadra and Sarang Shroff (reserve) are in the team. The team contest should do us a world of good as we get ready for the Asian Games next."

Advani picked the teams from the British Isles as the ones to beat.

"England, Scotland and Wales are the tough ones. We need to perform at our best."
