Designs with lyrical flair

Lata Mangeshkar's new line of jewellery for Adora was launched at a fashion show in the city

Agreed compeering is not the easiest job. But keeping the audience on their toes doesn't really mean you call them `lazy hands', again and again.

But let's give credit where it's due. Half the evening was carried through by the emcee, Prithvi Vishwanathan, who with considerable charm and wit, and lots of enthusiasm went amidst the audience and got them to count alternately in two languages, guess names and even got a few unsuspecting men to drape saris — and all this to win Lifestyle and Adora gift vouchers. Though frankly there were so many of them to be won that the organisers could have showered the audience with them.

Now when the vouchers weren't being distributed, pretty models walked down the ramp set in the middle of the Citi Centre atrium, displaying an exclusive collection of jewellery designed by Lata Mangeshkar for Adora.

The pieces of Swaranjali were elegant, including a huge amethyst set in the middle of a multi-stringed pearl choker, with matching earrings of amethyst and tassel of pearls. All in all, very diva like, and very Lata Mangeshkar — elegant, individualistic and stylish but never over the top. The company claims that a third of the collection comprises jewellery inspired by the Nightingale of India's personal collection.

Line for men

There was even a line for men. Hunks walked out in veshtis and chunky traditional gold coin necklaces and strings of rubies. A bit of sashaying was also reserved for Lifestyle's summer collection — breezy cottons, accessorised with cheerfully long bead necklaces and matching danglers.

Dancers from the Raack School of Dance displayed skill and balance, performing to songs from Anniyan on a small platform.
