A group show at the Chitrakala Parishath features works in acrylic, watercolour and mixed media
|
Undo Objects, a creative initiative of Assam's three promising artists Debananda Ulup, Kishor Kumar Das and Raj Kumar Manzinder started two years ago in Guwahati. The group set out to voice its concerns about the stifling social order and question the growing discontentment. . Other artists who are also caught up in the fragmented surroundings, participate in its activities.
The group show currently on at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath includes the works of the founding artists and six others. With a single exception, these artists have a close association with Assam and have had their art education either in M.S. University, Baroda, or Vishwabharati, Shantiniketan. The only Bangalore artist to feature in the show, K.V. Raghavendra Rao, is an alumnus of the Ken School of Art. The artists have used different mediums such as acrylic, watercolour and mixed media to delineate their paintings. A few linocuts and lithographs have also been exhibited in the show. In his uniquely structured painting, Laishram Surjit Khuman steals a close look at the Dream World Under the Blue Water, while Nikhileswar Baruah's Visitor is a solitary figure dwarfed by thick hovering clouds in a vast landscape. Manoj Roy's Time is a surreal image of a floating torso and severed head.
Maneswar Brahma's Victim is an engaging lithograph, while Kishor Kumar Das' Titanic features a modern Hanuman swimming underwater in his search for Sita. Debananda Ulup's watercolour titled Hope handles jagged structures and minimal colours, but still manages to create a harmonious impression. Raghavendra Rao's untitled work portrays a sword-wielding Kempegowda seemingly caught in the midst of urban chaos. Swarupa Shah's mixed media work, Earth Plate and Raj Kumar Mazinder's linocut A for Apple are among the other works on display.
The exhibition concludes on April 29.
