Success smiles

Up close and personal with Asin

RIDING HIGH Asin is flying high in both Telugu and Tamil films

Asin is phenomenal in most of what she does. Director Murugadoss, who handled Asin in Gazini, describes her work as edgy and gut wrenching. Right now, Asin is riding high with projects in Tamil and Telugu, and her next film Godfather is getting ready for release. And one sees her on telly doing innumerable campaigns these days.

Asin unwinds with Metro Plus and shares a few thoughts.

On her first memory of wanting to act

It is something you are inevitably drawn to. I've always been fascinated by other people's lives, and that probably started because I've been hooked onto books ever since I was a child. I remember sitting near the window and reading while it poured... it's a great memory. After my parents, it's books that are my best friends. The Da Vinci Code is one that I have been reading again and again.

Accepting herself more as an actor

I suppose what happens in life is there's a gradual acceptance of thinking of yourself as an actor — it's something you grow into. One is wary of taking on that identity too soon, because it seems presumptuous.

On being a celebrity

It's been four years and 12 films and I have enjoyed working in each of them. There is a lot of human interaction, travelling around the world but the erratic schedules drives me crazy.

Few years from now...

Well, I'd like to act in good films, A Gazini doesn't happen always. I'd like to have longevity in my work. I'd like to have an eclectic, diverse life that involves a lot of different worlds, — not just the worlds of films and books. I love it when worlds converge.

On her career

I am being given some great opportunities. And it is up to me to make the best of those opportunities I don't know what the future holds.
