Chords and Notes

FANAA

Yash Raj Music, Rs.58

Much as the film is awaited, for being Kajol's comeback vehicle, for being paired with Aamir for the first time on-screen, for being seen as a possible hit to wipe off the long drought at the box office, the soundtrack of "Fanaa" has not created much of a splash yet. But all the tracks of the film are soft, not jarring. Music directors Jatin and Lalit have made good use of the soothing santoor — after all the story is based in Kashmir. While "Chanda Chamke" and "Des Rangila" are playful numbers, "Dekho Na" and "Mere Hath Mein" are a little slow.

RAB TOH MANGIA KARO

Nupur

Yet another singer belts out some nice Punjabi numbers. And Gulzar, touted as the `new kid on the block' does a fair job of singing that could please the listeners who generally listen to Daler Mehndi, Mika and others of their ilk. Gulzar, (not to be confused with the seasoned lyricist), has a typically robust voice that is the hallmark of those who sing Punjabi songs. The CD has 10 songs.

The pick of the lot is the title song, "Rab Toh Mangia Karo, Khishiyan de din chaar". "Aaja Ni Tu Aaja" is another good number. The good thing about this CD is that unlike most Punjabi albums, none of the songs is overly noisy or boisterous.
