Kamat Bugle is not a restaurant but a food plaza. It has several floors offering multi-cuisine food to all classes of people. South Indian, North Indian, Chinese and North Karnataka meals are available. This food plaza serves breakfast, lunch and also dinner. Started a year ago, Bugle Rock is flocked by techies, families and students as well. Over 200 varieties of dishes are available. You get to dig in from a wide range, beginning from kotte idlis, a coastal delicacy (idlis steamed in jackfruit leaf), served with sambar and chutney. The dosas too come in many varieties and it is the neer dosa served with garlic chutney, that's a must try.

Foodie's delight

On Sundays, one can feast on a breakfast buffet from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. The menu includes juice, cut fruits, bread-butter jam, mini dosas, shavige (vermicelli) with coconut milk, shavige chitranna, akki roti served with avarekalu curry, after which one can down a piping hot cup of tea or coffee. Priced at Rs. 60, this unlimited breakfast buffet is truly a foodies' delight.

The piece de resistance here is the authentic delicacies from North Karnataka. It is Kamat that brought North Karnataka meals to Bangalore and it has retained the authentic taste that one gets to taste in Bijapur, Dharwad and Belgaum. The North Karnataka meals offer jolada roti (even kadak for those who prefer it hard), pulses palya, soppu palya, yennegai (a thick brinjal gravy) also five different types of pudis and pickles. The sumptuous repast is topped by a plantain and beeda. The special North Karnataka meal is priced at Rs. 100, which comes with the famous kardantu, the dry fruit laddu. This meal without the sweet dish comes at Rs. 70.

The food overall is supervised by an 83-year-old chef "who is an expert in North Karnataka cuisine and has been at it for seven decades, since he was an 18-year-old lad," says Sanjeev Kumar Singh, General Manager, Kamat Yatri Nivas. More than 1,000 Jolada rotis are made each day and the jola (maize) is sourced from Hubli washed and dried and made into powder. Eight employees prepare the rotis.

Of course, there is the signature South Indian platter in all its splendour with rice, rasam, sambar, palya, kosambari, pickles, papads, and buttermilk. Served traditionally on a plantain leaf. Besides food, this plaza is known for promoting classical music. Music is soothing and we also have this platform to promote talented artists, says Sanjeev. Over 246 musicians have performed here so far. These concerts take place every evening from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sundays between 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The auditorium can seat about 35 people. More than 100 people listen to the concerts every day.

They also undertake outdoor catering. Bugle Rock can be contacted on 26605734.
