Heart of the matter...
It is well known that `health is wealth'. A poor man who is healthy is richer than a wealthy man who is not. And those who have a healthy heart enjoy their life more.
The heart is the most vital organ of the human body after the brain. Heart diseases are becoming common in today's stressful world. People's hectic schedules don't allow them to give time to their health and heart. There are few heart institutes in our country that claim to provide good treatment at reasonable cost. Metro Group of Hospitals is one of them.
The Group's first hospital was established in 1997 at Noida by the name of Metro Hospital and Heart Institute. Later other Metro Institutes were built in Faridabad, Lajpat Nagar, Rohini, Meerut and Agra. Cardiology is not the only speciality of the Metro Group. Metro Centre for Liver & Digestive Diseases and Metro Centre for Respiratory Diseases are other medical institutes managed by it. All these hospitals are observed by globally recognised medical authorities. The doctors at the Metro Hospital use the latest technique in dealing with heart problems called Interventional Cardiology. According to this procedure done under local anaesthesia, a plastic tube enters the heart to treat heart disorders. It is different from open-heart surgery.
According to Dr. Purshotam Lal, Founder-Chairman of the Metro Group, "Interventional Cardiology is done without opening the heart. It is a blessing. It is not only a substitute for open-heart surgery but also a life saving procedure (in cases) where the risk involved is high." He adds that most people in villages don't know that the heart can be opened without surgery. Dr. Lal who has been conferred with prestigious awards like the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, does 95 per cent of the hospital's operations with his own hands. He says that what makes the team at Metro Hospital feel proud is that "we are considerate, flexible and we don't do business but service".
Smoking, high blood pressure, obesity, stress and strain are the causes of heart disorders, he reiterates. Smoking is considered as poison for heart. "What we need today is health awareness among people. To avoid heart problems you must go for regular general check-ups, do yoga and other relaxation exercises, have a good diet and introduce lifestyle management in the daily routine."
