IT'S SUMMER AND HENCE, DIFFICULT TO STOP BINGING ON ICE CREAMS: Avantika
YUMMY Long chat sessions over scoops of ice cream can make one's day PHOTOS: CH. VIJAYA BHASKAR
Whenever Keertana feels low and needs to pep up her mood, she invariably drives to the nearest ice cream parlour and digs into scoops of the sinfully delicious dessert. In a short while, she emerges refreshed and re-inspired.
Come summer, the ubiquitous ice creams become undisputed favourites. A harried homemaker or a flustered highflier, the delicious scoops provide a magic energy fix. The hangouts serving ice creams get busy carting in new flavours to treat the customers to generous scoops of invigorating and energizing bites.
For teeny-boppers and die-hard freaks, it brings instant bliss. Then, what about the talk of calorie watching? "What is important is the fact that there is more than one viewpoint on every issue. For some, ice creams may be a strict no-no.
But most youngsters revel in the magical feeling and forget everything else. It has its highs and lows and needs to be kept under check," says Rohit Bosh, operational manager of Temptations, a buzzing joint opposite Hotel D.V. Manor.
Regular visitors to Temptations like Akhil and Pranay prove Rohit right. Pushing prudence to the back-burner, these youngsters stride out and feel deliciously blithe by satiating their sweet cravings.
The place bustles with squeals of delight by college students who laugh aloud and enliven the surroundings. Passionate food-lovers, they muse on the fun-factor that makes them tick.
Eclectic delights
For most ice cream lovers, the flavours add a kick and cracking the glazed topping is a satisfaction in itself. "I don't let the sun go down without doing something worthwhile for the day. What better way to romance the blazing sun by tucking into the dessert. The experience is unique and it makes me feel liberated and ready to soar," gushes Sai Venkataramana.
For Avantika, a degree student, ice creams are flavours of happiness. "The explosive taste of the eclectic delights light up my being. It's summer and hence, difficult to stop binging on ice creams," she says matter-of-factly.
FRESH FLAVOURS Variety is the spice of life
A reference to restrictions on the domestic front prompts an indignant Priyanka to remark: "I don't see any excitement factor in the opinions of the elders. There's no magic in them." Smiling and throwing her head back, she savours the creamy luscious scoops. It is interesting to watch the crowd gulping these inspired and lovely treats with ease and create a buzz that has become the lively summer spirit.
Adnan S. set up a shop opposite Temptations in an attempt to `educate' people of Vijayawada about the difference between ice creams and frozen desserts. "Unfortunately, people here just cannot differentiate between the two and fall prey to the enticing business tactics," he complains. He offers to his customers ice creams made of fresh milk.
Tantalising flavours
The five new flavours introduced this season - Swiss cake (cake with ice-cream) choco walnut (chocolate flavour with nuts), Belgium dark chocolate (complete chocolate in Cadbury flavour), mellow-jellow (tootie frootie with black current sauce and vanilla chocolate cubes) and paan flavour (paan with ice-cream) has made Temptations irresistible for the crowds. Some other tempting options are Black Forest Fantasy, basic flavours like Quiet Evening (straw berry), Love of California (vanilla) Dark Island (chocolate), cold coffee with ice cream, Nutty Naughty sundae, Fruit of Fun (a mix of fresh fruits topped with vanilla, sauces and jellies), Sunset Glow, Beauty Blush and Berry Bonanza topped with sauces and jellies.
A Baskin 31 Robbins outlet adjacent to Seshasai Kalyana Mandapam, S4U opposite hotel Fortune Murali Park, Brothers' Ice Cream at Benz Circle and the on-going Jumani ice cream festival in hotel D.V. Manor are other hot spots in the city that are treating denizens on scoops of frozen wonders. "When it comes to ice-creams, I am quite gluttonous. I simply can't afford to overlook its magical effect. It tells us that some very ordinary things in life can be extraordinary," says Ravi Teja, an intermediate student who is at his will to tuck into ice cream cups after his exams.
Doing things with no strings attached, purely for the sense of satisfaction of leading life on his own terms gives him a high. "Now that the exams are over and event he results are out, I want to feel my head clear, heart lighter, tension ease and spirits bubble in simple joys of life," he says relishing a cup of Shocking Current, a double sundae.
Forget everything you have learnt about calorie watching and have fun with some of the best goodies of the season. If you never try these good things in life, you simply will not know what you are missing out on.
Cast a glance around and you will realise how the happening hangouts are brimming with life. Get going for a quick scoop that can take you closer to life.
