VIVA FOOTBALL Discovery Channel celebrates the World Cup

Discovery Channel celebrates the World Cup through a premiere six-part series, `More Than A Game,' featuring the six giants of the game — Brazil, Argentina, England, Germany, Italy and France.

Telecast every Friday at 9 p.m., the series will chronicle the emergence of international football's greatest teams and players interwoven with the story of how the World Cup evolved as a tournament and shaped the nature of football worldwide.

Made in collaboration with the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the programme is a definitive account of the World Cup, its glorious goals, legendary players, fans and its enduring appeal.

With previously unseen footage from matches dating back over 40 years, the series will enable viewers to get a fresh perspective on the most familiar football legends.

The first part of the series featuring Brazil was telecast on April 28.

On May 5, the focus will be on Argentina, particularly Diego Maradona. On May 12, the programme will feature England and its World Cup story. On May 19, watch how Germany emerged as one of the leading nations in world football. It's Italy on May 26.

Reliving history

Viewers can relive Paolo Rossi's hat trick that helped Italy beat Brazil in one of the greatest World Cup games.

On June 2, the focus will be on France and the unique multi-racial team that played for the country in 1998 and took home the trophy
