Just Six -- Tamar Chatterjee

Making musical strides

Tamar Chatterjee

Here is the story about a Hyderabadi band that started as a high school rock act but decided to continue making music, this time professionally. After releasing their self-titled debut some time ago, a number from the cover shared airplay with other global metal acts. And now put your hands together for Gnarl as it releases its second video for the music channel. Path, the track, is riding VH1 airwaves at the moment. Tamar Chatterjee tells Metro Plus about the making of the video and more.

It's different: The earlier video When was about the band members coming from different backgrounds. It was an introductory video about us. The second video Path features a full-fledged story.

Concept: It's a dream about two roads. One has medals, graduation and laurels while the other is a darker extreme of an outcast and rebel. Both end at a tombstone. The moral: take any path of your choice. It doesn't have to be the best extreme. It's a small life and you need to live life to the fullest, follow your goals and dreams.

Direction: The earlier video was directed by our then band manager Tejuswini Chowdhury. This one is directed by me. The story was always in my mind.

We have used the same photographer Rambabu for the shoot. It has the same dark tone.

Location: When was shot at Durgam Cheruvu. We had the Deccan rock and sylvan landscape for backdrop.

This time we needed props— podium and a room with two doors to go with a theme. We worked on the sets this time.

Sound: I would probably say the song comes across catchy on the first hearing. It has the same melodic content as the rest of the songs in the album.

Road ahead: Two months later we will be touring. We plan to start with south India— Cochin, Bangalore and Chennai. In our next leg we plan to take our music up north to Delhi and Kolkata where we will be playing to the metal buffs.
