This band is proudly desi

Aurko will rock Bangalore in a night of some great Indian folk rock and nostalgic Hindi retro at Opus today, with their national launch concert.

Aurko (Sanskrit for the first rays of the sun) loves to call itself a passionately desi band, and came together in 2000, when an adman, an insurance expert and a trio of software engineers picked up their guitar, pulled out the synth, and got the drums and dholaks rolling.

Bangalore's very own Indian "mellow-rock" band with a dash of Indian folk, Aurko is known for high voltage live performances. Their music is steeped in Indian melody, the orchestration is earthy yet has a contemporary rockish feel to it. Aurko loves performing non-stop, which is its USP.

Six years, 193 rocking live concerts, and now going national with their debut music album, Aurko already has two back-to-back music videos to its credit — Nadiyaa followed by Puchhe Ye Dil Se — that have been all over TV since the last month.

Aurko has Supratik and Souvik on lead vocals, Saumya on rhythm and backing vocals, Aakash on the keyboard, vocals and tech support, Jeet as lead guitarist, Yathi on the drums and Dev on base guitar.

Aurko will perform live at Opus (off Sankey Road) on May 6, Saturday. Entry Rs. 149. For reservations call 23442580.
