DELICIOUS An array of irresistible ice-cream flavours
Scoops of icy wonders can do wonders to lift up the spirits in summer. And the ice-cream parlours in the city have come up with special offers and flavours to satisfy the customers.
The hot and humid climate all year round ensures that ice cream parlours are never short of customers. To cash in on this craze, Jaya Kumari Frozen Foods (P) Ltd., launched its new brand of ice cream - Jaykays at Celebrations parlour in Chinna Waltair. Their specialty is an elaborate spread of sundaes with more than 30 varieties that are yummy and reasonably priced.
"The mono-flavour ice-cream is not preferred any more. People want variations and are ready to experiment with a combination of flavours," says P. Sobhan Prakash, Managing Partner of Jaya Kumari Enterprises. "There is a lot of scope for introducing new varieties and innovative flavours in the ice-cream market. Adding to that, a quality product with good service and a pleasant ambience is the key to rule the market," he added.

At Celebrations, customers can also mix and match the flavours. Special Sundaes can be ordered for parties and functions at a reasonable price. Hot Chocolate Fudge and Ice Cream Sundaes are most sought after. The Sundaes begin with the regular double and triple scoops and move on to a six-scoop special. Single Sundae entitles you to a choice of any regular scoops with toppings, a Double Sundae comes with two regular scoops of your choice with toppings. You can choose from a range of them: Brazilian delight, American dry fruit (rich in dry fruits), Crunchy Munchy (with nuts and crispy pieces), mango magic (with the true flavour of Alphanso mangoes), honeymoon dream and fresh lychee.
Jack Frost, Blue Berries and the evergreen brand of Kwality Walls are the hot favourites of the people here. At these ice-cream parlours, you can choose the topping for your ice-cream. The topping includes cashewnut, almonds, crispies, raisins, coloured vermicelli, malted chocolate and butterscotch nuts. Other specialities include the sauce for the ice cream such as strawberry, chocolate, pineapple and mango. Do the names, `Pink Panther', `Twister', `Matilda' and `Double Impact', ring a bell? Well, these are not the names of Hollywood flicks as you probably thought, but new combinations of ice creams named after Hollywood films. The `Pink Panther' is all about two scoops of strawberry ice cream with strawberry sauce, nuts and pink crispies. Try out the fig and honey. Every lick you take, you can feel the grains of fig.
Going by the mood of the season, Celebrations introduced a new variety of ice-cream - Watermelon wonder. Jack Frost is one of the favourite hangout joints of youngsters. With a cool and pleasant ambience, the place boasts of an array of icy delights with delicious flavours.
A cheaper and more varied alternative to these factory ice creams used to be the delicious but deadly local ice candies sold outside the school. A huge, dirty block of ice (who cared then?) was shaved and collected in a cup. It was then yanked out in that cup shape with a stick, and three different, colourful flavours were poured on it.
With the advent of ice-cream parlours that provided not only scoops of the favourite flavours but also a soothing ambience to savour the whole experience, the ice-candy culture gradually faded out from the middle class settings.
