Sleeper hit

In Hollywood parlance, `sleeper hit' means a small budget film that opens small but slowly becomes a huge hit. In Kollywood, the term can now be applied to "Tiruttu Payale". The film, which took a 40-45 per cent opening in the first week, is now into its third week and its collection has risen to a steady 65-70 per cent throughout Tamil Nadu. Says director Susi Ganeshan: "The film has taken a share of nearly Rs. 2 crore in 17 days, and as per trade pundits, it has the potential to do up to Rs. 8 crore in the long run." The film made on a budget of Rs. 3.20 crore can now be classified as a super hit.
