That Italian touch

GOING INDIAN BPV also put up a cultural show at the launch event

It is a touch of Europe with a difference. This time, it is not a fast food outlet or an apparel showroom but one of Italy's largest banks, Banca Popolare di Vecenza (BPV) which is opening its Representative Office in New Delhi. What is more, this bank promises to encourage tourism too. So take out your tour guides, pack your suitcases, and prepare to go to Italy, courtesy BPV.

Established in 1866, the bank offers trade financial products for shot term imports and long term finance for import of Italian machinery. It already has correspondent banking relationships with leading Indian banks like State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Canara Bank, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank, UCO Bank and Bank of India. The main reason behind opening a bureau in India is to strengthen the business-relationship with Indian depositories.

According to the bank's chairman Gianni Zonin, "It will help bring together the two great nations of India and Italy". A BPV executive elaborates, "We have got the licence from the Reserve Bank of India to set up a Representative Office. It will be located in Connaught Place." Italy's Deputy Ambassador to India, Giorgio Starace says, "It is a pleasure to have another Italian bank here. We are convinced that Delhi deserves more attention". The bank will help Indian companies to build base in Italy and encourage tourism.
