The love-hate mix
THE DUO Sonu Kakkar and Sandeep Chowta
Shakespeare said, "Jealousy, thy name is woman". Well, it looks like it is no more so limited to a gender. Look at this case of envy. A man, attracted to the sensuality of a girl named Mallika goes to the extent of `hating' her when his feelings are not reciprocated. And then he sings, "Mallika! I Hate You."
Thank heavens, it is not your neighbour coming up with the idea but well-known music director Sandeep Chowta. His latest album, `Mallika! I hate you' has this theme of love and rejection bordering on hatred. Sonu Kakkar of `Babuji zara dheere chalo' fame has sung the track.
A coincidence
And if you are thinking it has anything to do with Bollywood bombshell Mallika Sherawat, "no, it is just coincidental," categorically replies, Chowta.
After giving music to a number of movies like Musafir, Asoka, Vastav, Kaun and Shool, Chowta is back with this album. `Mallika! I hate you' is about "the extreme emotions that an attractive woman stir up in males. It journeys from the feeling of passion to the feeling of grudge," describes Chowta. The singer-composer says, "It is the first ever released `single' album in the Indian music industry. There are five versions of the same song in the album. There is the original track, the lounge mix, the club mix, the desi mix and the tring tring version." Chowta has his reason ready for giving five versions of the same number, "In this way people don't have to auto-repeat the song. They can enjoy the same song again and again in different forms without getting bored."
Talking more on the question of using the name `Mallika,' a smiling Chowta offers to clarify: "Everybody for some reason is bringing in Mallika Sherawat. Yes, she is extremely desirable by many. She is the fantasy of a lot of men". He continues, "Mallika is a very Indian name. If I'd used some other name like Vaishali, Vaijayanti or Chandramukhi then also it would have the same effect. The song is a tribute to all women."On the success of another composer-singer Himesh Reshamiya, Chowta comments, "His music is right on the top. He is doing good. There is a great metamorphosis going on in the music industry. And new things are now being accepted in the Bollywood.""As a creative person I love my freedom. People hire me because they like my music. And I'm proud of my music," says the man who has given chartbusters in Mast and Jungle.
On he album, the young and talented singer Sonu Kakkar has this to say, "It is a wonderful and interesting song composed by Chowta."
