Of handicrafts at Valluvar Kottam

Variety and vibrancy mark the products on display at the National Art and Craft Expo on at the Valluvar Kottam till May 8. Organised by Gramin Hastakala Vikas Samiti, Agra, the exhibition showcases handicrafts and handlooms made by some of the best artisans in the country. The products are priced moderately and the exhibition is an effort to enable artisans to reach out directly to the masses without the involvement of middlemen.
On display are marble crafts, glass toys and jewellery, zari and zardosi from Purdilnagar, Khurja pottery, terracotta and metal craft from Aligarh, dhurries from Agra, Saharanpur furniture, saris from Varanasi, shawls and dress materials from Kashmir, phulkari from Punjab, bedsheets and terra cotta from Haryana, block prints from Delhi, miniature paintings from Rajasthan, kantha saris, jute craft, Shantiniketan leather work, cane furniture from Assam, handloom saris, dress material and filigree jewellery from Orissa, kosa saris from Madhya Pradesh, Tanjore paintings from Tamil Nadu, Pochampalli saris, Moti jewellery from Andhra Pradesh, Kolhapuri chappals from Maharashtra and coconut craft from Kerala.
