My kind of place - Karun Chandhok

KODAIKANAL

Early memories

I was two-month-old when I made my first trip to this serene hill station with rocks, waterfalls and a beautiful lake. Since then vacations, unwinding, family get-togethers or picnicking with friends have always meant heading to our ancestral property in Kodaikanal. My great grand father built a sprawling house in a quite corner, near the forest area. So, since childhood Kodai has been like a second home. One reason why I cannot think of any other place as my favourite destination though I spend most part of the year outside the country.

Outdoor activities

Earlier, we would spend the summer months in Kodai. But these days because of the increasing touristy activities at this hill station we prefer going during the winter. I generally love to go there in a gang — with cousins or close friends. I love to go on long walks, jog, trek and cycle. I usually take my cycle along so that I can pedal away to fitness in the cool climes. Evenings are meant for barbeques.

Unfussy about food

A strict vegetarian, I generally steer away from the strict diet and discipline once the racing season ends. I eat and do whatever I want to till it is time again to get behind the wheel. I am not fussy about food at all and can survive on the simplest of meals. But nothing to beat home sappadu!
