Photography has never been so easy with a range of state-of-the-art cameras

NEW GENERATION CAMERAS Child's play PHOTO S. SIVA SARAVANAN

Anyone could become a photographer these days. You needn't know the basics of photography and need not even know how to load a camera.

The film is no longer inevitable in photography. With a smart digital camera, all you got to do is aim and shoot, for technology will do the rest of the job.

An exhibition of cameras organised by Savithri Photo House had a collection of digital and video cameras from Canon ranging from the basic model to the most advanced one.

Picture perfect

The latest in the scene is A-620, a seven-mega pixel camera with a rotating LCD display.

The advantage of a rotating LCD display is that pictures can be taken at any angle. For, instance, the photographer need not strain himself in order to click a picture of a bird in flight.

The picture could be shot by just rotating the LCD screen, said R.S. Natrayan, General Manager of Savithri Photo House.

The model costs Rs. 21, 425 and comes along with a 256 MB memory card and a six-battery charger.

New technology

Another model that catches the attention of customers for its sleek metallic finish is the five-mega pixel digital camera, Ixus 55. Unlike other cameras, which have a fibre body, this one is weather resistant and is not usually threatened by moisture. It also has a long life, Mr. Natrayan points out.

Informative

Though aimed at the high-end customers who have experimented with amateur photography, the exhibition was also an opportunity for those interested in the art of photography to learn about the various options available for them in terms of the technology available.

Among the video camera models, UV 850 I, which costs Rs. 25, 850, is the latest in the field and comes with a digic processor function.

The advantage of the processor is that the quality of the stills captured in the video camera will be as good as the video clipping.

The exhibition also had an exchange offer where customers could exchange their film cameras for a A-410 digital model.

The price of the basic model was brought down from Rs. 8,995 to Rs. 7, 995. "A video clipping for 20 to 30 seconds can also be shot using this model," Mr.Natrayan says.

If the memory of the same model is upgraded, a longer video clipping (10 to 15 minutes) can be shot.
