ART OF MAKE UP Training beauty parlour personnel

All of us love to look beautiful. Helping people to look stunning, are beauty parlours and salons that serve to provide individualised attention to its customers. Manning these parlours are personnel who are increasingly viewed as `beauty consultants.'

The changing role of these personnel coupled with the growth of the beauty business in recent years has created the need for professionals who have the necessary skill, training and passion for this art of making people look beautiful.

First in Kerala

In its bid to train professionals in Kerala who can deliver quality beauty solutions, Aaroos Beauty Solutions, the franchise partner of Lakme Beauty Salon in Thiruvananthapuram has tied up with the Malaysia based Clara International to start its first ever training academy in Kerala. Touted as one of the largest in Asia, the Clara International Aesthetic Academy was established in 1977 and has been striving to provide "extensive training and development in the fields of beauty."

The soon-to-start `Clara International Beauty Academy' in Thiruvananthapuram would be based out of its Regional Office at Vazhuthacaud. "We are aiming at providing internationally accredited courses," says Karthika Ajith, director.

Certificate courses, diploma and advanced diploma programs, which will include theory sessions and hands on training in "simulated and real environments," would be offered in the academy.

The certificate programs include the three-month `Certificate in Beauty Culture & Hair Designing' and the `Certificate in Advance Make up' extending to four months. There are diplomas being offered in beauty therapy and hair designing. The one year `Advanced Diploma in Aesthetics & Hair Designing' covers broad areas like skin theory and practical, machine treatments and make up and styling.

The `Clara Self Rejuvenation and Grooming Program' is for one month and the broad areas include personal skin care and beauty, art of make up, dressing and grooming, personalized hair styling and nutrition health and beauty. The fee for the various courses would approximately range from Rs.5000 to Rs.70000.

The courses are open to girls who have a pass in the Plus Two examinations. Says Karthika, "The applications would be scrutinised to assess the attitude of the candidates towards the profession and their communication skills."

Each batch can accommodate a maximum of 14 students and training would be provided by "qualified world class trainers, professionals and practitioners in the beauty industry."

While no placement guarantee is being offered, Karthika says, "The students will be provided assistance and guidance in placements." For the benefit of outstation students, assistance will be given in finding hostels.

Starting with Thiruvananthapuram, more academies are being planned in Kochi and Kozhikode.
