Honour for devotional music
T. S. Radhakrishnan is a trendsetter of sorts. For nearly eight years he played the bass guitar for the popular band `Hijackers' before he moved into composing music. His first album `Harisree Prasadam' became a huge hit and Radhakrishnan turned to devotionals. He formed Harisree, a group that rendered only devotionals, the first of its kind in the State. This group was later renamed Tyagabrahmam, which has performed in almost all the temples and pilgrim centres in India and even in the Middle East and Africa.
Radhakrishnan has composed music for more than 150 devotional albums with almost all the eminent singers like K. J. Jesudas, P. Jayachandran, P. Leela, S. Janaki, P. Susheela, K. S. Chitra, Sujatha, Unni Menon, M. G. Sreekumar, Madhu Balakrishnan and others singing for him. He has composed music for films like `Ethrupukkal,' and `Geetham.' And now after a rather long gap of nearly 20 years he is back to films with the film `Valmeekam,' the recording of which has just been completed.
Radhakrishnan, who will be completing 25 years in his `bhaktigana movement' will be felicitated at a special function to be held at the Gowri Kalyana Mandapam, Kochi, on May 11 at 5 p.m. K. J. Jesudas will be the chief guest on the occasion. Radhakrishnan, who has been conferred with numerous titles by various organisations, will be conferred with the title `Bhakthiganopasakasri.' Luminaries from various walks of life are expected to grace the function. This will be followed by `Bhakti Gana Tharangini,' a programme of devotional music.
