KAR LO MATA KE DARSHAN

After this past week's wonderful cassette Swaranjali and the great voice of Sushmita Mazumdar, this week we are back to mediocrity that comes in the form of another devotional audio CD urging you to have a darshan of Mata.
The singers Mahender Pal and Sushila Sawant do try their best to sustain listeners' interest, but the tunes - fortunately they are not borrowed from any popular Hindi movie, or for that matter not even any of those remix variety - somehow seem to lack depth and appeal. Mahender Pal incidentally is both the composer and music director of this offering.
There are six bhajans in all. The CD opens with Kar Lo Mata Ke Darshan and ends with Namo Namah,Durge Sukh Karni. The highlight of this CD is the lovely Aarti that almost lasts a full 10 minutes. Even though the CD is modestly priced, one wonders if there will be any serious buyers of such variety.

Asha Bhonsle, timeless, eternal Asha. She is back. No, she never went away. It is just that some of the songs that were in the inner recess of our memory are there in front of us. Courtesy, this DVD pack which comes with some of the better known Asha Bhonsle numbers with all the wonderful visuals of the likes of Aishwarya Rai, just proving that the lady has always modulated her voice according to the screen persona of the heroine. Asha is no prisoner of her image and her voice has few limitations. She is as comfortable singing Kahini aag lage from Taal, as she is singing Khatooba Khatooba from Alibaba Aur 40 Chor or Sun Sun Did Tere Liye which made the old Khoobsoorat such a delight. Truly, the magic lingers in this nearly two-hour pack that has 26 songs with English subtitled and have been digitally re-mastered from the original films.
Go for this visual delight simply because of the mettle of the playback singer. The best thing is the heroines don't take away much charm from the voice of the singer in this carefully compiled collection.
