City models make their mark in films

Model Madhushalini
Unlike many models in Mumbai who've managed to make their presence felt in movies, Hyderabad models so far had negligible offers from Telugu films. Even those models who've made sporadic appearances in films have lamented the lack of scope. "Star power drives the industry. And film-makers feel that models do not have the looks that can appeal to the native audiences," was the constant grievance.
All that is changing now, at least in small measures. Quite a few models have managed to get a toehold in films. There's Madhushalini, who has featured in Naa Pranamkante Ekkuva and the recently released Kitakitalu with Naresh.
Her new film, Oka Vchitram, directed by Teja, will release soon. "Kitakitalu is doing well and I am really excited. Earlier, when I approached production houses, people were reluctant to sign me on because I'm not a trained actor. But working with Teja was like studying in a film school," she tells us. Model-turned-actor Sreedhar Rao meanwhile seems to be doing a good job at handling roles that have grey shades. He got noticed for his villainous role in the Sumanth, Genelia starrer Satyam and is now continuing with his villainous streak in Pawan Kalyan's latest film Bangaram.
Topping the list is Priti Amin. She started off as a model and then acted in popular soaps. Being one of the final contenders for the Zee Cine Stars Ki Khoj contest put her on the national map. Of late, you would have seen her in Kailash Kher's new video for the album Kailasa. "We shot near Charminar just after dawn on a Sunday. Acting in the video happened by chance, but the response has been good," says Priti, who has signed a Telugu film to be directed by Banu Vijay and a new Hindi film.
