MANE ATTRACTION Kenneth Lowe at work

Wonder how many places in Chennai you could sport a dramatic roll on your straightened hair with extensions done in orange, mauve, purple and violet. But at Salon Nayana's Spring - Summer session, the stylists were experimenting with "fantasy" hairstyles. The styles showcased were playful and chic, but how long will the spiky hairstyle the male model sported continue to be dramatic?

You could try these styles for informal get-togethers such as a beach party or when you are out clubbing, said Kenneth Lowe, one of the hairstylists at the salon.

Hair extensions

A girl with angular features wore the straightened hairstyle with extensions. These hair extensions stay till one or two washes, added Kenneth. You need to be careful not to brush it often though.

Another girl with softer features and big eyes carried off well the windblown look. Her hair was combed out and back with a hint of a bouffant. Her hair was coloured copper at the fringes and also had tinges of the colour on the body of the hair.

As for the spiked and tussled hairstyle, the ends of the spikes were coloured golden and the roots black. After the straightening and colouring, the model's hair was tousled a bit to tone down the colouring, pointed out Kenneth.

"Many men in the city are willing to try out different hairstyles and experiment with colours," he says.

The three regular hairstylists at the salon in Chennai are Suranga, Thillini and Kenneth while Prabath came down from the salon's Bangalore outlet for the session. The hair extensions done in Bangalore had more of purple and pink, but for Chennai the colours were toned down to subtle shades of orange and gold.

Ironed straight and styled into curls and spikes, the hairstyles are definitely time-consuming. The models had to sit through a session of more than an hour. You can try out these hairstyles at the salon for Rs. 250 each.
