Hind-rock is back

Hailing from Bangalore, a band called Aurko is all set to take Indipop by storm

It's surprising to know that a Hindi Rock band that was formed in 2000, took six long years to release its first studio album. But what is heart-warming is the fact that the band is probably the first to realise that live concerts dictate the success of a Rock band, and not recorded albums.

Aurko, a bunch of five guys, with a vision to break away from tradition and create music which no one has heard before, set off on a journey six years back, with Supratik, the lead vocalist and composer. He was soon joined by Souvik on vocals, Saumya on support vocals, Aakash on the keyboard, and Jeet on guitars. The album titled, "Nadiyaa", released recently, includes eight original compositions by Aurko besides remix versions of two tracks. The title track is an interesting mix of rock accomplishments, flanked by Bengali folk rhythms, a brand of classical music, which Indipop has not experimented too much with. What stands out in this track is the harmonious amalgamation of the ancient folk vocals, with contemporary, energetic sounds. Each song has a message, which is evident only if you listen to the album a few times back-to-back. The band has a certain sense of honesty and straightforwardness in its music, which is a rare trait in the music of today. Grab this album with both hands, before it disappears off the shelves.

A VISHNU
