INTENSE STORY From "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring"
The Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation in association with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, New Delhi is organising a Korean Film Festival from May 15-17 to mark the inauguration of the Indo Korean Cultural and Information Centre in Chennai. The films "Welcome to Dongmakgol" (May 15, 6.30 p.m.), "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring" (May 16, 6.15 p.m.), "Joint Security Area" (May 16, 8 p.m.), "Chihwaseon" (May 17, 6.15 p.m.) and `Il Mare" (May 17, 8 p.m.) will be screened at the South Indian Film Chamber Theatre.
In "Welcome to Dongmakgol" soldiers from the U.S., North and South Korea come to a peaceful village Dongmakgol during the Korean war. At first, they confront one another, but soon, they begin to mix with the villagers. What they do when it is time for them to carry out their duties forms the rest of the plot.
"Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring" revolves around a young boy who lives in a floating temple with an elderly master who teaches him the ways of the Buddha. Years later, the boy, now a young man, gets involved with a girl who comes to the temple to be healed by the master. He runs away but his lust turns his life into hell. Does he return to the temple?
In "Joint Security Area" (the DMZ separating North and South Korea) two North Korean soldiers have been killed supposedly by a South Korean soldier. But, the 11 bullets found in the bodies together with the five remaining in the assassin's magazine clip amount to 16 bullets for a gun that should hold 15 bullets. The investigating Swiss team overseeing the DMZ suspects that another unknown party was involved.
"Chihwaseon" is about a child Seung-up who is saved by the scholar Kim Byung-moon from being beaten up by a group of drifters. After discovering Seung-up's talent in art he encourages him to pursue it and gives him a pen name - Oh-won. His fame grows and he reaches impossible heights. However, he yearns to change and stretch beyond his limits.
"Il Mare" relates the story of Eun-joo and Sung-hyun and how they form a friendship through their letters.
