FOR THE FAMILY

Family is the keyword for movie channels in May during summer holidays. Last fortnight, Sony Max telecast hit family movies such as Baghban, Hum Tum, Parineetaand Waqt. There are many more in the pipeline. According to a spokesperson of Sony Max: "Movies such as these appeal to the entire family unlike thrillers and adult films." Sony Max's Sunday 1 p.m. movie show, `Sunday Housefuls', has got impressive TRPs. Meanwhile, most of the channels are on a buying spree of latest movies. The `multiplex movies' or the offbeat movies are now being promoted on the channel almost within a fortnight of their release. Last Saturday, 15 Park Avenue had its television premiere, in less than a month after its theatrical release. Will the southern, especially Tamil, channels take the cue and the producers council allow the screening of new Tamil films on television?
