Cool it

Iced tea has constantly been a superb way to cool off in hot and dreary summer afternoons. But one often doesn't find the right place to have it. So cheer up tea-lovers because this summer The Emperor's Lounge at Taj Mahal hotel in New Delhi is the place that can bring down the scorching heat.

Iced tea is America's contribution to the global tea culture. It gained popularity when a tea merchant, Richard Blechynden, unable to sell tea due to a heat wave at the Louisiana Purchase Exhibition in St. Louis, decided to serve his tea over ice. It was a hit with the guests and summers haven't been the same after that.

Iced tea is generally prepared using the traditional method of hot steeping but in recent times the conventional cold steeping technique is becoming quite popular too.

The Emperor's Lounge has introduced a distinct line of iced teas. A customer can choose from a variety of herbal, black and fruit-based iced teas. To begin with, one can have the Fruit Tropical Dream, which is a lip-smacking blend of dried papaya, orange peel, hibiscus and rosehip poured over ice. One can team it up with a pastry of choice. The best thing about this tea is when you are finished with it you can have a go at the fruits that are left at the bottom of the glass.

Another good option is the Welbech Nilgiri. A herbal tea straight from the highlands this tea with its soothing character is said to be refreshing for the soul. In black iced teas, the Earl Grey, a revitalising concoction with an essence of bergamot oil, can surely be tried out.

So what is holding you back?
