`Da Vinci Code' fate hangs in balance in Hyderabad irrespective of I&B Ministry decision
|
Film aficionados in Hyderabad will have to wait even longer for Da Vinci Code even if the I&B Ministry gives the green signal for the release of the movie in India. The film premiered at the Cannes and will open worldwide tomorrow..
"The film has been receiving flak from certain sections of the society. Hence, we are waiting to gauge the response in other States before releasing it in Hyderabad. We are toying with two dates - May 26 or June 2 for Hyderabad," says Arindom Basu, of Sony Pictures.
But there seems to be more than what meets the ear. When contacted, a few theatre owners feigned ignorance and told us, "Until a few days ago we were told that the film will release simultaneously with other states. Now we are told that there's a change of plan."
When asked why only Hyderabad and Chennai are being left out, Arindom maintains, "This is the situation at the moment." At the time of going to press, we learnt that the film's release in Hyderabad will be delayed even if it releases across the country soon after the government's nod. But will a staggered release not give a boost to video piracy?
