Fashion frenzy catches up with Guntur

The difference from an ordinary fashion show was discernible at DB Fashion Show-2006, says Ramesh Susarla

CAT WALK Models set the ramp ablaze

Barely had the dust and din of Lakme India Fashion Weeks in Mumbai and Delhi settled down that a bevy of gorgeous models from Mumbai and Hyderabad set the ramp ablaze in Guntur at DB Fashion Show-2006 on a hot Sunday evening.

Cool cotton casuals to chinos, traditional silk saris to trendy designer salwar suits of all prominent brands enhanced the grandeur of the evening.

Keeping the interest of the audience intact in a four-hour mega event, the Hyderabad-based Talent Dance Troupe set the tone for the show by performing a dance sequence to a high-decibel playback of A.R. Rehman's popular `Vandemataram... '

Embroidered Kanchi pattu saris in maroon, shades of green and cream wrapped by lanky models in all styles, from traditional south Indian to Gujarati, gave a peep into the prevailing trends.

Hallmark of traditional Andhra girls' formal wear - half sari, was also given a pride of place in a maroon-cream combination. Choreographers and designers play a major role in the success of fashion shows and make not only models, but even the clothes they wear presentable, says Arif Khan, a budding model from Vijayawada. Six local models, selected from Guntur and Vijayawada, were trained for a couple of days by choreographer Joseph Sandy.

"It is all about finding the rhythm and presenting the right angle to make the dress look fashionable," says Khan, who is preparing for Gladrags and is keen on undergoing training in Hyderabad and Delhi. Status, Venfield and Sneha were some of the brands that featured in children's, men's and women's ready-to-wear garments fashion sequences interlaced with item numbers.

The Channel Dance Troupe members of Hyderabad gyrated to popular numbers like Kajarare... from Hindi and Jarramvachindi... , Happy... and others from Telugu films.
