Witnessing a birth

"Men in labour" (May 17) reminded me of the time I was witness to my daughter delivering her first baby in the U.S.

The doctors there said the baby's father, siblings if any, and grandparents could come into the labour room.

After seeing our granddaughter enter this world, our son-in-law was asked to cut the umbilical cord.

This practice is prevalent in some hospitals even in Mumbai.
