ISLAND TREAT Sweet and spicy
Savour a taste of Sri Lanka at the Sri Lankan food fiesta at Bubble café, Taj Residency.
Colonial influence has given the Emerald isle cuisine a fantastic variety. Relish typical Sri Lankan cuisine with
`Ambul Thiyal' (sour fish curry) which is a popular fish curry found mainly in the south of Sri Lanka. It really is a pickle made from tuna. Other specialties unique to Sri Lanka are hoppers, which are usually consumed either for breakfast or lunch. Milk hoppers and honey hoppers too are delicacies to be enjoyed. Other island food that are a must try are Pittu, a mixture of flour and grated coconut steamed in a bamboo tube and Lamprais, a popular Dutch dish of rice boiled in beef stockand baked in a low oven after it is wrapped in a banana leaf. Kottu rotti is a filling snack found at street side eating-houses. This elastic doughy pancake is chopped into shreds and stir fried with vegetables, onions, egg and beef or chicken. Savour traditional desserts such as kiri pani (buffalo milk curd and treacle), wattalappam (a Malay origin egg pudding with jaggary or hardened treacle), sweet meats such as kevum (made with flour and treacle) and kalu dodol (jaggery, cashew nuts and coconut milk).
The festival is from 7.30 to 11pm every day till May 28. The buffet is priced at Rs. 450 plus taxes per head and includes a bottle of complimentary beer. There is a holiday to be won at Taj Exotica Bentota, Srilanka by way of a lucky draw on May 27. Return airfare to Srilanka, courtesy Srilankan Airways will be provided to the winner.
