Just Six Shriya

I'll be back

TWO WORLDS Shriya is acting with both Rajnikanth and his son-in-law PHOTO: S. THANTHONI

A couple of years ago, she was literally the toast of Telugu films with a string of films to her credit. But of late, actress Shriya has shifted focus to Tamil films to complete two plum projects - Sivaji with Rajnikant and Thiruvilaiyadal with Dhanush, Rajnikant's son-in-law. We catch up with Shriya to find out why she is missing from Telugu films and her take on acting with actors from two generations at the same time...

I haven't bid goodbye: I am not moving away from Telugu films forever; that's a misconception. Since I have two Tamil films I've been spending more time in Chennai. I'll be open to offers here after these projects. In fact, I am doing a guest appearance for Nagarjuna's new film.

Looking for more: Frankly, I have substantial roles in both the Tamil films. At one point, in some of my Telugu films, my roles were limited to three songs and four scenes. Now, I am keen on doing meaty roles. Songs and dances are crucial elements in a film, but there has to be something more than that for me to sign a movie.

Language no bar: The language is immaterial if I like the story and script. I heard a few scripts last year and wasn't too happy, so I didn't sign those Telugu films. Now I am again listening to scripts and talks are on. I might sign a couple of projects, but it's too early to tell.

Rajnikant and Dhanush: I am not the first actress to be working with actors from two generations. For the viewers, all that matters is how good are the films. I am sure they won't be bothered to mull over why I am acting with Rajnikant and Dhanush, his son-in-law. Even Sridevi has earlier worked with father and son. I play my age in Dhanush's film. The story has a lot of twists and turn and there was no way I would have refused it.

No fear of being overshadowed: I know that Sivaji is a complete Rajnikant film. But I have no fear of being overshadowed. I watched all of director Shankar's movies and noticed that through the films are hero-centric, the heroines have significant roles. For instance, Aparachitudu might be Vikram's film all the way, but Sada manages to shine.

More Tamil films? There have been rumours that I have also signed a Tamil film with Simbu, but that's untrue. I haven't heard any story for me to decide.
