Cool option closer home

I don't know how many would understand that Tiruvannamalai, particularly the west side of the hills, could make for a fabulous holiday destination. I am there every month, through the year, for four days. Amazing quietude with just the Nature for company, hassle-free life and not much of a travel from Chennai... I cannot find a better way to please my soul.

My little world

I have a house that stands on a two-acre land on the west side of the hills near the Adiannamalai village. It's quite close to the forest area and my 10-year-old son loves to go on picnics to nearby places.

We keep talking about relaxation but it is only when I come here that I understand the true significance of the word. There is no television and hardly any houses around. Our four dogs, two cats, 80 trees and hundreds of colourful birds that flock this marshy area add to the joy.

Quiet moments

I cook a simple meal and spend the rest of the time sitting on the benches under the neem trees and watch the Arunachala mountain, sometimes hidden by clouds and at other times standing majestically in front you.

Beating the heat

During summerwe generally head to Coonoor. But this year, the snowy mountains and the monasteries of Gangtok beckoned us. Travellers never miss visiting the Rumtek monastery and Baba Harbhajan Singh temple.
